Born to Knit - Save the Children Australia

The Campaign....

Picture
I saw this advertised on a postcard at the school I work at and knew, finally, there was a charity cause I could not only do on my own, but I could run in the school!
The campaign is titled "Born to Knit" and is about knitting (or in my case crocheting!) blankets for those children in third world countries that need extra warmth heading into those colder months and nights.
I decided that I was going to put away my personal projects for the next couple of months, and furiously begin crocheting away for this cause.

I also decided that I was going to get as many people as I knew to help me along the way in this... now if only I knew a place with lots of young, energetic, creative people with compassionate hearts... cue the classroom!!
That's right! I am taking this last week of term to teach all the students in my class (year 6s) how to crochet and we will spend most of our time sitting, yakking, drinking hot chocolate, and making blankets for these other children in need! I am also encouraging students in my Home Group to join in and will be starting a 'crochet/ knitting' club once a week at lunchtimes to get other students in the school involved. I went out and bought a whole heap of crochet hooks and wool, all set to go!!
Talk about compassionate hands-on learning!
My invite to you is to join us in this. I will be posting on this page video links to 'how to' instructions on basic crocheting and knitting and also updates and photos of our progress. Please, join us and help us keep one more little soul warm this winter :)
